Day School Lessons and Carols

Just a reminder, our four and five year olds will be presenting Lessons and Carols in the sanctuary Tuesday, Dec. 12th at noon. There is no photography or video allowed in the sanctuary, but you will receive a link to the IPC You Tube recording. The children have worked hard and it promises to be a meaningful part of all of our Christmas celebrations. A special thanks to Miss Dana, Reverend Goodrich, SeƱora Cobb, Miss Jill and Mr. Jason  for all their hard work and dedication to our children and families.

Those Crazy Gingerbread Men Ran Away!

We all know the story of those wandering gingerbread men and it happened again at the Day School last week. What should have been a calm baking time in the oven turned into quite a mystery. After leaving the cookies in the oven, the four year olds returned to find no gingerbread men, but rather their first clue as to their whereabouts. The scavenger hunt took the children all over the Day School searching and squealing with laughter. Imagine how surprised they were when the last clue took them back to the classrooms where their gingerbread men were waiting to be eaten!!

We found them!!!

Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger bags have gone home and we hope you will join us in filling our Community Ministry Food Pantry this season. This is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your children about real acts of kindness that help others. Have them choose a couple items out of your pantry or shop with you. The food will presented by the children in our weekly chapel service then taken to the pantry. Our older classes will actually take "field trips" to the pantry to see where and how it works. We ask that all bags be returned by Wed., November 15th. Thank you from the Day School, IPC, and all the many families who will receive the food.

Thank you to our Community Helpers

Our wonderful and dedicated fireman and mounted police paid visits to the Day School 4's and 5's in September. What a great opportunity to make learning about community helpers come to life. The timing of the visits also coordinated with their letters of the weeks, F and P. The children learned about fire safety and the importance of having a family plan of where to meet their parents. They also watched one of the firemen don his full protective gear including the mask that made him look like Darth Vader! The importance of not being afraid of the loud breathing noise was reiterated, and the children learned that was a good sound because it meant someone was there to help. Each child also got to sit in the firetruck!! We also had a visit by Slade the horse and his policeman, Officer Herndon. The children learned that mounted police can go where police cars cannot always go and that being up high on top of the horse allows the policeman to see more, as well as information about the care and behavior of the horse. We sure appreciate our community helpers and having them visit and make our study become real.

Saying Good bye to Miss Jill

Miss Jill Marlar is retiring after twenty years in the Day School. She taught the three-year-olds, the four year olds, and most recently our music classes. She has brought joy through her teaching to so many children and their families, she will certainly be missed. Please thank her and have your children thank her when you see her. We will still see Miss Jill when she comes to teach the Enrichment classes, Art Scope and Showstoppers in the afternoons. The very capable Dana Porter (currently the Top Dog assistant teacher) will take over as our music teacher next year.

Welcome Back!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year! We cannot wait to have your sweet children back with us this week. Remember it is going to get cold so please send outerwear and be sure to label everything.
Also, if you pay half tuition at the beginning of each semester, please send your check tomorrow if you have not already done so. The deadline was actually today, but we realize it would be more convenient for you to bring it when your child comes back. Thank you for taking care of this.
