Thank you to our Community Helpers

Our wonderful and dedicated fireman and mounted police paid visits to the Day School 4's and 5's in September. What a great opportunity to make learning about community helpers come to life. The timing of the visits also coordinated with their letters of the weeks, F and P. The children learned about fire safety and the importance of having a family plan of where to meet their parents. They also watched one of the firemen don his full protective gear including the mask that made him look like Darth Vader! The importance of not being afraid of the loud breathing noise was reiterated, and the children learned that was a good sound because it meant someone was there to help. Each child also got to sit in the firetruck!! We also had a visit by Slade the horse and his policeman, Officer Herndon. The children learned that mounted police can go where police cars cannot always go and that being up high on top of the horse allows the policeman to see more, as well as information about the care and behavior of the horse. We sure appreciate our community helpers and having them visit and make our study become real.
