Cardboard Cities

We all accumulate plenty of emptied cardboard rolls, short and tall and plenty of empty boxes that all those Amazon shipments arrived in. In a previous post, we painted with rolls, but today, we are going to build a city. It could look like a village near your house, or a downtown city with all tall buildings. You could even include your favorite place to eat, the police and fire stations, your church, the Day School or the zoo if you want. There is no limit to your creation!

Materials:
cardboard rolls
small cardboard boxes
construction paper
scissors
markers/crayons
glue
cars - optional

To Do:
Cut out or draw doors, windows, roofs for the buildings.
Glue on any cut outs to the rolls.
Label any buildings your child designates as a specific place.
Use boxes, if you want, for other buildings
Use a flat piece of cardboard to make a parking lot.

Children can arrange and rearrange the pieces to create new spaces and the fun can go on and on.
And, if you are fortunate to come across a really large appliance box, or are very unfortunate and have to replace an appliance, let your child or children turn the box into a playhouse or fort. Cut a door, windows, tape the flaps on top up to form the roof, decorate inside and out. The process of the build is so much fun and allows for so much creativity and, after completed, is great for hours of entertainment and imaginative play.
